Cupid (2009 TV series)
Cupid is an American romantic comedy-drama television series that aired on ABC in 2009. It is a remake of the 1998 series of the same name created by Rob Thomas. The 2009 version was also created by Rob Thomas, but featured a new storyline and cast.
The series stars Bobby Cannavale as Trevor Pierce, a man who believes he is the Roman god of love, Cupid, banished to Earth to match 100 couples before he can return to Mount Olympus. He is committed to a psychiatric hospital but is eventually released into the care of Dr. Claire Allen, played by Sarah Paulson, a psychiatrist skeptical of romance. She runs a matchmaking service and is tasked with keeping Trevor grounded and preventing him from engaging in behavior deemed delusional.
Each episode typically revolves around Trevor attempting to pair up different couples, often using unconventional and humorous methods, while Claire struggles to reconcile her scientific worldview with the possibility that Trevor might be telling the truth about his identity. The series explores themes of love, destiny, mental health, and the power of belief.
The 2009 Cupid was cancelled by ABC after only seven episodes aired due to low ratings. The remaining episodes were later aired online. Despite its short run, the show developed a cult following.
