St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral (Billings, Montana)

St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral, located in Billings, Montana, serves as one of the two cathedrals for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Great Falls-Billings. Alongside the Cathedral of St. Ann in Great Falls, it shares the function of being the principal church of the diocese.

The parish of St. Patrick’s was established in Billings in 1886. The original church building was dedicated in 1887. As the Catholic population in Billings grew, the need for a larger church became apparent. The cornerstone for the current St. Patrick’s Church was laid in 1906, and the completed structure was dedicated in 1908.

In 1980, Pope John Paul II decreed that St. Patrick’s Church be elevated to the status of co-cathedral, sharing diocesan functions with the Cathedral of St. Ann in Great Falls.

The Co-Cathedral features a Gothic Revival architectural style, characterized by its pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and stained-glass windows. The interior houses various religious artworks and furnishings. The building is a significant landmark in downtown Billings, playing a vital role in the spiritual and community life of the region. Its services and programs cater to a diverse congregation, reflecting the wider population of the area. The Co-Cathedral continues to serve as a center for religious ceremonies, community outreach, and various diocesan events.
