Crile (crater)

Crile is a lunar impact crater that is located on the far side of the Moon, behind the eastern limb as seen from Earth. It lies to the southeast of the crater Langemak, and northeast of the larger Schliemann.

Crile is a relatively well-formed crater with a sharp, defined rim that has undergone only minor erosion. The inner walls display some terracing and slumping. The interior floor is relatively level and featureless, with only a few tiny craterlets. The crater is named after George Washington Crile, an American surgeon.

Surrounding Crile is a lightly cratered surface that is typical of the lunar far side. Several small, unnamed craters lie near the rim. Overall, Crile is a typical example of a lunar crater, displaying the common features associated with impact events. Its location on the far side of the Moon makes it inaccessible to direct observation from Earth without the use of spacecraft.
