Crash (card game)

Crash is a shedding-type card game, typically played with two or more players using a standard 52-card deck. The objective of Crash is to be the first player to get rid of all their cards.

Gameplay:

  1. Dealing: The deck is shuffled, and each player is dealt an equal number of cards face down. The number of cards dealt can vary depending on the number of players, but a common amount is seven cards per player. If the cards cannot be dealt evenly, some players may receive one additional card.

  2. Starting the Game: After the deal, the remaining cards are placed face down in the center of the table to form the stock pile. The top card from the stock pile is flipped face up next to the stock pile to start the discard pile.

  3. Turns: On their turn, a player must play a card from their hand onto the discard pile. The played card must match the rank or suit of the top card on the discard pile. For example, if the top card is the 7 of Hearts, the player can play any 7 or any Heart.

  4. Special Cards: Certain cards often have special functions, which can vary depending on house rules or regional variations of the game. Common examples include:

    • Wild Cards: A "wild card" can be played on any card and the player playing the wild card declares what suit the next player must match. Examples of cards that are used as wild cards vary, but include 8s, Jokers (if used), or other designated cards.

    • Skip Cards: Playing a "skip card" forces the next player to miss their turn. Examples include 2s, or other designated cards.

    • Draw Cards: Playing a "draw card" forces the next player to draw a specified number of cards from the stock pile. Examples include Aces (forcing the next player to draw one or two cards), or other designated cards.

The rules of these special cards should be established before the game begins.

  5. Drawing Cards: If a player cannot play a card from their hand, they must draw one card from the stock pile. If the drawn card can be played, the player may play it immediately. If the drawn card cannot be played, the player adds it to their hand, and their turn ends.

  6. Empty Stock Pile: If the stock pile is exhausted, the discard pile (except for the top card) is shuffled and turned face down to create a new stock pile.

  7. Winning: The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the game.

Variations:

Crash has many variations, often with different rules for special cards, drawing cards, and other aspects of gameplay. These variations may also be called different names, based on their specific rules.
