Peranemid
A Peranemid is a member of the family Peranemidae, a group of euglenoid flagellates within the Euglenozoa. These single-celled organisms are characterized by their rigid, pellicle-bound cell shape and their heterotrophic mode of nutrition. They are often found in freshwater environments and feed by phagocytosis or by absorbing dissolved organic matter. Peranemids typically possess two flagella, one of which is trailing and may be attached to the cell surface. A prominent cytostome is used for engulfing prey. The family is defined based on morphological characteristics and molecular phylogenetic data. Taxonomy within the Peranemidae can be complex and is subject to ongoing research and revision.
