Corus (mythology)

In Roman mythology, Corus is the northwest wind. He is often depicted as a strong and sometimes violent wind, associated with storms and tempests blowing from the direction of Gaul. While not as prominently featured as other wind gods like Boreas (north wind) or Zephyrus (west wind), Corus held a place in the Roman understanding of natural forces and was invoked in prayers or rituals intended to appease the winds and ensure safe passage, especially at sea. His presence is less frequent in literature and art compared to the major Roman deities. His equivalent in Greek mythology is generally considered to be Iapyx, although the association isn't always consistently made. His influence was felt primarily during the winter months.
