USS Royone (IX-235)

USS Royone (IX-235) was a concrete barge acquired by the U.S. Navy during World War II. Designated an unclassified miscellaneous vessel, her primary purpose was to provide floating storage and warehousing in support of naval operations in the Pacific Theater. Constructed by Barrett & Hilp, Belair, California, under a Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1356), she was launched in 1944 and acquired by the Navy the same year. Royone served in various locations throughout the Pacific, offering stable and voluminous storage space that was essential for maintaining supply lines and supporting forward operating bases. She was particularly valuable because her concrete hull made her resistant to corrosion and required minimal maintenance compared to steel-hulled vessels, crucial in the harsh environments of the Pacific. Following the war, she was placed out of service and disposed of. While her specific operational details and actions are limited, her role in providing logistical support was vital to the Allied war effort.
