Corinthia

Corinthia is a historical and geographical region of Greece. It is named after the ancient city of Corinth, a powerful and influential [[city-state]] in [[Ancient Greece]].

Historically, Corinthia was a major region on the [[Isthmus of Corinth]], the narrow land bridge connecting the [[Peloponnese]] peninsula to mainland Greece. This strategic location made the city of Corinth a vital commercial and naval power. The region played a significant role in Greek history, from the [[Archaic period]] through the [[Classical period]], the [[Hellenistic period]], and the [[Roman Empire]]. In modern Greece, Corinthia (Greek: Κορινθία, Korinthía) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the administrative region of the Peloponnese. Its capital is the city of [[Corinth (modern)]], located near the site of the ancient city. The regional unit covers an area that includes the Isthmus, parts of the northeastern Peloponnese, and sections of the surrounding coastlines on the [[Gulf of Corinth]] and the [[Saronic Gulf]].
