Conrad II (bishop of Hildesheim)

Conrad II was Bishop of Hildesheim from 1221 to 1246. He belonged to the noble House of Wassel.

His episcopate was largely characterized by efforts to consolidate and expand the territorial and financial power of the Bishopric of Hildesheim. He engaged in numerous disputes with neighboring secular rulers, particularly the Dukes of Brunswick and the Counts of Wöltingerode, over land rights and jurisdictions. These conflicts often involved military action and arbitration.

Conrad II also actively promoted the economic development of Hildesheim through the granting of market privileges and the establishment of new settlements. He oversaw the construction and renovation of several churches and monasteries within his diocese, demonstrating his commitment to ecclesiastical building projects.

His reign witnessed increasing involvement of the towns and cities within the diocese in political and economic affairs. Conrad II attempted to balance the growing autonomy of these urban centers with the overarching authority of the Bishopric.

He died in 1246 and was succeeded by Otto I.
