Vitreous Humor (band)

Vitreous Humor was an American indie rock band formed in Lawrence, Kansas in 1991. The band consisted of vocalist and guitarist Jeff Fortier, guitarist Danny Pound, bassist Brian Beattie, and drummer Brooks Rice.

Vitreous Humor was known for their distinctive, angular guitar work, Fortier's often cryptic and emotionally charged lyrics, and their dynamic, energetic live performances. They blended elements of post-punk, noise rock, and art rock, creating a sound that was both challenging and captivating.

The band released several EPs and singles on various independent labels, garnering critical acclaim and a dedicated following. Notable releases include the Effin' Mess EP (1993) and the Selfish EP (1994). These recordings showcased their unique sonic palette and established them as a significant presence in the early 1990s indie rock scene.

Despite their growing popularity and critical success, Vitreous Humor disbanded in 1996. Following the breakup, the members pursued various other musical projects. Fortier and Pound later reunited in the band The String & Return, while Beattie continued to work as a musician and producer.

Although their time together was relatively short, Vitreous Humor left a lasting impact on the indie rock landscape. They are remembered for their innovative sound, intense performances, and the enduring quality of their music. Their discography continues to be discovered and appreciated by new generations of music fans.
