Children of a Lesser God (album)
Children of a Lesser God is the debut studio album by the American hip hop group P.M. Dawn. It was released in 1991 on Gee Street Records. The album is notable for its eclectic sound, blending elements of hip hop, soul, pop, and new wave.
The album's title is taken from the 1980 novel and subsequent play and film of the same name by Mark Medoff.
Children of a Lesser God was a commercial success, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. It spawned several singles, including the hit "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss," which sampled Spandau Ballet's "True." Other notable tracks include "Paper Doll," "A Watcher's Point of View (Don't 'Cha Think)," and "Reality Used to Be a Friend of Mine."
The album is widely regarded as a classic of the early 1990s alternative hip hop scene and is praised for its originality and its sensitive, introspective lyrics.
