Kasakan

Kasakan, also spelled Cassacan, is a historical term referring to a type of long, loose-fitting coat or outer garment worn by men, particularly in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and parts of Russia. The term itself is believed to derive from a Turkic root. The kasakan was often associated with Cossacks, and could be made of various materials, including wool, leather, or felt.

Traditionally, the kasakan was characterized by its simple design, often featuring a high collar and buttoned or fastened closure. It served as practical outerwear, providing warmth and protection from the elements in harsh climates. The design and embellishments of the kasakan could vary depending on the region, social status, and purpose of the garment. While often associated with military or equestrian activities, it was also worn as everyday attire by commoners and individuals of various social classes.

Over time, the kasakan evolved and influenced other forms of outerwear in the regions where it was prevalent. Variations in style and construction reflected local traditions and available materials. While not as commonly worn in contemporary times, the kasakan remains a part of historical and cultural identity in certain Eastern European and Central Asian regions, often appearing in reenactments, folklore, and cultural performances.
