Chevrolet Camaro (sixth generation)
The sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro is a pony car produced by Chevrolet from 2016 to 2024. It represents a significant redesign from the fifth generation, moving to the GM Alpha platform shared with the Cadillac ATS and CTS. This switch resulted in a lighter, more agile vehicle.
The sixth generation Camaro was initially available with a range of engine options, including a 2.0L turbocharged inline-four, a 3.6L V6, and a 6.2L V8. The base 2.0L turbo offered improved fuel efficiency compared to previous generations. The V6 provided a balance of performance and fuel economy, while the V8, specifically in the Camaro SS, delivered high-performance capabilities. A supercharged 6.2L V8 was later introduced in the ZL1 variant, providing even more power.
Transmission options included a six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic, with later models offering a ten-speed automatic.
Trim levels typically included the 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1, each offering increasing levels of features, performance, and technology. Significant changes were made during the model run, including a controversial facelift in 2019 that revised the front fascia. This was later revised again for the 2020 model year.
Key features across the range included independent rear suspension, modern infotainment systems with touchscreen displays, and available performance-enhancing options such as magnetic ride control. The sixth generation Camaro prioritized handling and performance, positioning itself as a direct competitor to the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. Production of the sixth generation ended in December 2023 with the 2024 model year being the final year of production.
