Charles Blake (surgeon)
Charles Blake (surgeon) was a 19th-century American surgeon known for his work in otology (the study of the ear) and his contributions to the understanding and treatment of aural diseases. Born in Massachusetts in 1840, he graduated from Harvard Medical School and later studied in Europe, particularly in Vienna, which was a leading center for medical research at the time. He became a prominent figure in the American medical community, publishing extensively on topics such as mastoiditis, tinnitus, and the anatomy and physiology of the ear. Blake is credited with developing new surgical techniques for treating ear disorders and was actively involved in various medical societies. He died in 1893.
