Cercetes
Cercetes (plural Cercetae) refers to a group of light-armed Thracian soldiers, often skirmishers or peltasts. They were known for their agility and speed, making them effective in harassing enemy formations and scouting. The Cercetae are mentioned in historical accounts of the Thracian Wars and other conflicts involving Thracian tribes. Their equipment typically consisted of light shields, javelins, and potentially other light throwing weapons. Their name, likely derived from a Thracian term, is associated with swiftness and maneuverability in battle. They were a common component of Thracian armies and auxiliary forces employed by other powers, particularly the Macedonians and Romans.
