Central District (Meshgin Shahr County)

The Central District (Persian: بخش مرکزی شهرستان مشگین‌شهر) is a district (bakhsh) in Meshgin Shahr County, Ardabil Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 115,332, in 27,149 families. The Central District has one city: Meshgin Shahr. It has two rural districts (dehestan): Meshgin-e Sharqi Rural District and Dushman-e Kuri Rural District. The district encompasses the administrative center of Meshgin Shahr County and is the most populous district within the county. Its economy is primarily based on agriculture, animal husbandry, and tourism. The area is known for its natural beauty, including the Sabalan mountain range and hot springs, attracting visitors throughout the year. Historically, the area has been inhabited for centuries and has played a role in the regional political and economic landscape.
