Canadian Open (tennis)

The Canadian Open, currently known as the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, is an annual professional tennis tournament held in Canada. It is the second-oldest tennis tournament overall, behind only Wimbledon, dating back to 1881.

The tournament alternates each year between Montreal and Toronto. In odd-numbered years, the men's tournament is held in Toronto and the women's tournament is held in Montreal. In even-numbered years, this is reversed.

The Canadian Open is a prestigious event on both the ATP Tour (for men) and the WTA Tour (for women). It is a Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour, meaning it is one level below the Grand Slam tournaments. On the WTA Tour, it is a WTA 1000 tournament, which also represents the second-highest tier.

The tournament is played on outdoor hard courts. Historically, it was played on grass courts.

The Canadian Open attracts top-ranked players from around the world and is considered an important warm-up event for the US Open, which is held later in the summer. Its champions list includes many of the most prominent names in tennis history.

The event is administered by Tennis Canada. It plays a significant role in promoting tennis within Canada and providing opportunities for Canadian players to compete at a high level.
