CamCutter

CamCutter is a (primarily obsolete) term used to describe a type of software, and sometimes a physical device, that allows a user to directly record video from a computer's webcam or attached video camera and perform basic editing functions in real-time or near real-time. These programs often featured simplified interfaces geared toward ease of use and quick sharing, rather than professional-grade editing capabilities.

The functionality of a CamCutter typically included recording video and audio simultaneously, adding basic text overlays, and potentially performing simple transitions between scenes or clips. The output format was often optimized for online sharing or burning to physical media such as CDs or DVDs.

The rise of more powerful and versatile video editing software, coupled with the increased accessibility of smartphones with high-quality cameras and built-in editing tools, has largely rendered dedicated CamCutter software obsolete. Modern operating systems also typically incorporate basic webcam recording functionality natively.
