CITO-TV

CITO-TV was a fictional television station used in the Canadian sketch comedy television show SCTV (Second City Television). The station was meant to parody low-budget, independent television stations common in Canada and the United States. CITO-TV was portrayed as being located in the fictional city of Melonville, Ontario, Canada.

The station was characterized by its incredibly low production values, amateurish on-air talent, and a tendency to broadcast whatever was available, regardless of quality or coherence. CITO-TV frequently featured parodies of various television genres, including news, talk shows, movies, and public service announcements.

Recurring characters associated with CITO-TV include station manager Guy Caballero (played by Joe Flaherty), news anchors Earl Camembert (Eugene Levy) and Floyd Robertson (Joe Flaherty), and host Johnny LaRue (John Candy). Many other SCTV characters appeared in segments that were supposedly broadcast on CITO-TV.

The use of a fictional television station as a framework allowed SCTV to satirize the television industry itself, as well as popular culture in general. The name "CITO" was a play on the call letters often assigned to television stations.
