CBERS-2B

CBERS-2B (China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite 2B) was the fourth satellite in the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite (CBERS) program. This program represents a collaborative effort between China and Brazil to develop and operate remote sensing satellites for Earth observation.

Launched on September 19, 2007, from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in China, CBERS-2B carried a suite of remote sensing instruments designed to acquire multi-spectral imagery of the Earth's surface. These instruments provided data for a variety of applications, including land use monitoring, agricultural assessment, deforestation tracking, urban planning, and water resources management.

Specifically, CBERS-2B carried the High-Resolution CCD camera, providing high-resolution imagery; the Wide-Field Imager (WFI), offering a wider field of view for broader area coverage; and the Infrared Multispectral Scanner (IMS), capturing data in the infrared spectrum for vegetation and other environmental studies.

The CBERS program, including CBERS-2B, plays a significant role in providing developing nations with access to crucial Earth observation data, fostering sustainable development and resource management. While CBERS-2B is no longer operational, its data archive remains a valuable resource for retrospective analysis and long-term environmental monitoring. The program has continued with subsequent CBERS satellites, building on the legacy of CBERS-2B and its predecessors.
