César Rodríguez (footballer, born 1920)

César Rodríguez Álvarez (6 July 1920 – 1 March 1995), known simply as César, was a Spanish football player and manager. He is best known for his prolific goalscoring record for FC Barcelona during the 1940s and 1950s.

Born in León, César began his professional career with FC Barcelona in 1939. He became a key player for the club, forming a formidable attacking partnership and winning five La Liga titles (1944–45, 1947–48, 1948–49, 1951–52, 1952–53) and one Copa del Generalísimo (now Copa del Rey) in 1951, along with two Latin Cups (1949, 1952) and five Copa Eva Duarte (the precursor to the Spanish Super Cup).

César was a versatile forward, capable of playing in several attacking positions, but he was most effective as a center-forward. He was renowned for his clinical finishing, powerful shot, and aerial ability. For many years, he held the record as Barcelona's all-time leading goalscorer in official matches, a record which was later surpassed by Lionel Messi.

After leaving Barcelona in 1955, César played for Cultural Leonesa and Perpignan before retiring. He subsequently embarked on a managerial career, coaching various clubs including FC Barcelona (briefly in 1963-64), Real Zaragoza, RCD Mallorca, and Elche CF, among others.

César is considered one of the greatest players in FC Barcelona's history. His goalscoring feats and contribution to the club's success during a golden era cemented his place in the hearts of Barcelona fans. He earned 12 caps for the Spanish national team, scoring 6 goals.
