Bumser
Bumser is the Danish word for pimples or acne. More specifically, it refers to inflammatory lesions on the skin caused by blocked hair follicles and sebaceous glands. These lesions can range in severity from small, superficial whiteheads and blackheads to larger, deeper, and more inflamed papules, pustules, and nodules.
The occurrence of bumser is linked to a combination of factors, including hormonal changes (especially during puberty, menstruation, and pregnancy), genetics, overproduction of sebum (oil), bacteria (particularly Cutibacterium acnes, formerly Propionibacterium acnes), and inflammation. Certain medications and cosmetic products can also contribute to the development of bumser.
Treatment options for bumser vary depending on the severity of the condition and can include over-the-counter topical treatments containing ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, prescription-strength topical or oral medications prescribed by a dermatologist (such as retinoids, antibiotics, or hormonal therapies), and professional procedures like chemical peels or laser therapy. Good skincare practices, such as gentle cleansing and avoiding picking or squeezing lesions, are also crucial for managing bumser.
