Buiksloot

Buiksloot is a Dutch placename. It commonly refers to:

• A former village and current neighborhood within the Amsterdam-Noord district of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Historically, Buiksloot was located north of the IJ river and administratively separate from Amsterdam proper until its incorporation into the city. The area maintains some distinct character despite being integrated into the larger urban environment.

• The name can also refer to a former sluice (Dutch: sloot) or drainage canal in the same general area. The settlement took its name from this waterway. These types of features were crucial for land reclamation and water management in the low-lying areas of the Netherlands.
