Bruce Smith (rugby union)

Bruce Smith is a former New Zealand rugby union player, best known for his performances as a loose forward for the All Blacks during the 1980s and early 1990s. Born in Rawene, Northland, Smith was a powerful and dynamic player renowned for his tackling ability, strength, and work rate around the field.

He played provincially for Northland and later for Counties Manukau, becoming a stalwart for both teams. Smith made his debut for the All Blacks in 1980 against Fiji, and went on to represent New Zealand in 32 test matches and 48 total matches, scoring 9 tries.

Smith was a key member of the All Blacks team that won the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987. He played in every game of the tournament and his contributions were considered crucial to the team's success.
