Book of Shadows (album)

Book of Shadows is the debut solo studio album by guitarist Zakk Wylde, released on March 26, 1996, through Geffen Records. Departing from the heavy metal sound associated with his work in Ozzy Osbourne's band and his own band Black Label Society (which did not yet exist at the time of recording), Book of Shadows explores a more acoustic and mellow style, drawing heavily on folk, country, and Southern rock influences.

The album features Wylde performing vocals, guitar, piano, and bass, with contributions from drummer Joe Vitale. The songwriting focuses on personal themes and introspective lyrics, often dealing with loss, reflection, and spirituality. Its departure from Wylde's established sound was initially surprising to many fans but garnered critical acclaim for its honest and heartfelt songwriting and performances.

Notable tracks include "Between Heaven and Hell," "Sold My Soul," "Book of Shadows," and "Way Beyond Empty." The album achieved considerable commercial success, reaching number 18 on the Billboard 200 chart and solidifying Wylde's reputation as a multifaceted musician capable of excelling in different genres. A sequel, Book of Shadows II, was released in 2016.
