Bob Emery (broadcaster)
Bob Emery (1895 – 1982) was an American children's television host and radio personality, best known for his long-running role as "Big Brother Bob" on various stations in Texas, primarily in Dallas and Fort Worth.
Emery began his broadcasting career in the 1920s on radio, eventually transitioning to television in the late 1940s. His children's shows, often featuring puppets, cartoons, and live performances, became staples of local television programming. He was particularly known for his gentle demeanor, interactive segments, and focus on positive values and education.
Emery hosted programs on WBAP-TV (later KXAS-TV) in Fort Worth for many years. He was often associated with the theme song "Froggie the Gremlin," although he did not originate it. He also used the phrase "Hello friends, hello neighbors" as a common greeting to his young viewers.
Big Brother Bob's influence extended beyond television. He made personal appearances at schools and community events, further solidifying his status as a beloved figure among children and families in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He retired from broadcasting in the 1970s.
