Binagol

Binagol is a Filipino steamed sweet delicacy from the province of Leyte, specifically the city of Tacloban and its surrounding areas. It is made primarily from talyan (a type of glutinous rice flour), coconut milk, calamay (a sticky sweet dessert made from glutinous rice, coconut milk, and sugar), sugar, and nuts (typically peanuts). The mixture is traditionally placed inside a polished coconut shell half (also called "bagol" which gives the treat its name) and then carefully covered with banana leaves before being steamed.

The preparation of binagol is a labor-intensive process, involving the careful mixing and cooking of ingredients to achieve the desired consistency and flavor. The use of the coconut shell not only serves as a container but also imparts a subtle coconut flavor to the treat.

Binagol is often sold as pasalubong (souvenir or gift) for tourists and visitors to Leyte. Different variations exist, with some incorporating other ingredients like ube (purple yam) or jackfruit.
