Greenea
Greenea is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae. These plants are typically shrubs or small trees native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, particularly Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
Greenea species are characterized by their opposite leaves, interpetiolar stipules, and tubular flowers that are typically white or greenish. The fruits are usually small capsules containing numerous seeds.
Several species within the genus have traditional medicinal uses in their native regions. They are sometimes used in local remedies for various ailments.
The genus Greenea is named in honor of Benjamin Daniel Greene (1793-1862), an American botanist. Further research and taxonomic revision may occasionally result in changes to the classification and species included within the Greenea genus.
