Bill Gaines (basketball)
William "Bill" Gaines (born August 26, 1946) is a retired American professional basketball player. A 6'7" forward, he played in the American Basketball Association (ABA) for five seasons.
Gaines attended South High School in Akron, Ohio, and later played college basketball at Southern Illinois University. He was drafted by the New York Knicks in the 1968 NBA draft, but did not play for them.
Gaines began his professional career in the ABA with the Kentucky Colonels during the 1968-69 season. He later played for the Dallas Chaparrals, Carolina Cougars, and Denver Rockets, playing his final ABA season in 1972-73.
His ABA career totals include 1,376 points and 980 rebounds in 249 games. While not a star player, Gaines was a solid role player and contributed to several competitive ABA teams.
