Bersham
Bersham is a village in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. It is located approximately two miles west of Wrexham town centre.
Bersham is historically significant for its industrial past, particularly its association with ironworks and the Wilkinson family. John Wilkinson, a prominent ironmaster, established ironworks in Bersham in 1762, which became a major industrial center in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. These ironworks played a key role in the development of iron production techniques, including the boring of cannon barrels. The Wilkinson ironworks also contributed to the early development of steam engines.
The remnants of the Bersham Ironworks are now a Scheduled Ancient Monument and part of the Bersham Heritage Area. The area includes the remains of furnaces, waterwheels, and other industrial structures. There is also a visitor centre that provides information about the history of the ironworks and the industrial heritage of the area.
Beyond its industrial history, Bersham is a small residential community with local amenities and access to surrounding countryside. The village is situated near Offa's Dyke Path, a long-distance trail along the England-Wales border.
