Belfast (UK Parliament constituency)
Belfast was a historical UK Parliament constituency in Ireland, returning Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Created by the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885, it replaced the previously existing Belfast constituency, which returned two members.
The Belfast constituency was divided into four single-member constituencies: Belfast East, Belfast North, Belfast South, and Belfast West. These new constituencies were first used in the 1885 general election.
The city of Belfast continued to be represented in the UK Parliament through these divisional constituencies until the dissolution of Parliament for the 1918 general election, at which point they were replaced by a revised set of constituencies. The administrative and electoral arrangements in Ireland were significantly altered in the period following the Irish War of Independence and the establishment of Northern Ireland.
