Beecraft
Beecraft refers to the practice and techniques associated with raising bees, primarily for the production of honey, beeswax, propolis, pollen, and royal jelly. It encompasses all aspects of bee management, from establishing and maintaining hives to harvesting honey and preventing and treating bee diseases. A beecraft practitioner, also known as a beekeeper, must have a thorough understanding of bee biology, behavior, and the local environment to successfully manage their colonies. Responsible beecraft prioritizes the health and well-being of the bees, ensuring sustainable practices that support the local bee population and ecosystem. This includes careful monitoring for pests and diseases, providing supplemental feeding when necessary, and avoiding the overuse of chemical treatments. The field is often practiced as a hobby or a small-scale commercial enterprise, but large-scale commercial beekeeping also exists, particularly for pollination services in agriculture.
