Bayer (crater)
Bayer is a lunar impact crater that is located in the southwestern part of the Moon's near side. It lies to the southwest of the larger crater Schiller, and northeast of the eroded crater Graff.
The rim of Bayer is somewhat irregular in outline, with outward bulges to the north and west. The inner walls are terraced, and there is a small central peak formation on the relatively flat crater floor. A small, cup-shaped crater lies along the inner wall to the northeast. A number of tiny craterlets mark the floor and inner walls.
Bayer is named after Johann Bayer, a German lawyer and uranographer who lived from 1572 to 1625. The name was officially adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1935.
