Battle of Sauce (1870)
The Battle of Sauce was a minor engagement that took place on December 26, 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War. It occurred near Sauce, in the department of Cher, France. The battle was a part of the larger Loire Campaign, in which French forces attempted to relieve the siege of Paris.
The battle pitted elements of the French Army of the Loire, specifically units under the command of General Jauréguiberry, against Prussian forces. The French objective was to disrupt Prussian supply lines and harass their positions in the region.
The engagement was relatively brief and characterized by skirmishing and artillery exchanges. While the French forces managed to briefly push back the Prussian lines, they were ultimately outnumbered and outgunned. They were forced to withdraw, failing to achieve any significant strategic gains.
The Battle of Sauce is not considered a major turning point in the Franco-Prussian War, and details regarding the precise units involved and casualty figures are limited. It remains a relatively obscure episode in the conflict, overshadowed by larger and more decisive battles.
