Barsana

Barsana is a town and a nagar panchayat in the Mathura district of the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is best known as the birthplace of Radha, the Hindu goddess and consort of Krishna. Barsana is a significant pilgrimage site for devotees of Krishna and Radha.

The town is located on the slopes of a hill known as Brahma Parvat. The economy of Barsana is largely dependent on agriculture and tourism. Numerous temples dedicated to Radha and Krishna dot the landscape, attracting visitors throughout the year, particularly during festivals like Lathmar Holi, which is celebrated with great fervor in Barsana.

Lathmar Holi, literally "Holi of sticks," is a unique and vibrant tradition where women playfully beat men with sticks. This tradition stems from the mythological narrative where Krishna and his friends visited Radha's village and teased her and her friends.
