Bapton

Bapton is a village and former civil parish in Wiltshire, England, situated on the River Wylye, approximately 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Warminster. Historically, it was part of the hundred of Branch and Dole.

History

Evidence suggests that Bapton has been inhabited since at least the Roman period. The Domesday Book of 1086 records the settlement as "Bapetone". Throughout much of its history, Bapton has been an agricultural community.

Until 1934, Bapton was a separate civil parish. In that year, it was merged with the parish of Stockton. The area is now part of the civil parish of Stockton, Wiltshire, and is represented on the Wiltshire Council.
