BMW 5 Series (E60)

The BMW 5 Series (E60) is the fifth generation of the BMW 5 Series line of executive cars, produced by BMW from 2003 to 2010. It was sold as a four-door sedan (E60) and a five-door wagon/estate (E61, marketed as "Touring"). The E60/E61 replaced the E39 5 Series in 2003 and was succeeded by the F10 5 Series in 2010.

The E60 generation marked a significant departure in design from its predecessor, the E39, featuring a more angular and contemporary aesthetic penned by Davide Arcangeli under the direction of Chris Bangle. This styling was initially controversial, but it eventually became more widely accepted.

Engine options available for the E60/E61 included petrol and diesel engines, ranging from inline-four to V8 configurations. Models were offered with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive ("xDrive"). Transmissions included manual, automatic, and sequential manual gearbox (SMG) options.

The E60/E61 introduced several new technologies for the 5 Series, including iDrive (BMW's infotainment system), active steering, head-up display, and adaptive headlights. Safety features included dynamic stability control (DSC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), and multiple airbags.

High-performance M5 models were also produced based on the E60 chassis. The E60 M5 was powered by a 5.0-liter V10 engine, making it a notable and highly regarded performance car of its era. It was available as both a sedan (E60) and wagon (E61).
