Avia (shoes)

Avia is an American footwear and apparel company that specializes in athletic shoes, primarily for running, aerobics, and cross-training. Founded in 1979 in Oregon by Jerry Stubblefield, the company initially focused on innovative shoe technology and designs aimed at improving athletic performance and comfort.

Avia gained prominence in the 1980s and 1990s, becoming a popular brand for aerobics instructors and fitness enthusiasts. They were known for their cantilever sole technology, designed to provide cushioning and stability. Their shoes were widely available in major retail outlets.

In the late 1990s, Avia was acquired by Reebok, which was subsequently acquired by Adidas. During this period, the Avia brand experienced a decline in market presence.

Later, the brand was acquired by Sequential Brands Group. In 2018, Sequential Brands Group entered into a long-term licensing agreement with Galaxy Universal LLC, which took over the development and distribution of Avia footwear and apparel.

Avia products are currently available through various retailers, including Walmart, and focus on value-priced athletic and casual footwear. The brand continues to offer a range of shoes for activities such as running, walking, and general fitness.
