Aquathlon (underwater wrestling)
Aquathlon, also known as underwater wrestling, is a competitive sport held in a swimming pool. It involves two athletes wearing masks, fins, and snorkels who grapple underwater with the objective of removing a ribbon attached to their opponent's ankle.
The sport is typically played in a rectangular pool with a designated marked area. The wrestlers start at opposite ends of the pool, submerged, and upon a signal, begin their attempt to capture the opponent's ribbon. The match is usually timed, and if neither athlete manages to remove the ribbon within the allotted time, the referee may declare a winner based on points awarded for control and dominance during the match.
Aquathlon requires a combination of swimming ability, breath-holding capacity, wrestling skills, and tactical thinking. It is a challenging and physically demanding sport that tests both strength and endurance. The sport is governed by various organizations and is practiced in several countries worldwide. Rules and regulations may vary slightly depending on the governing body and competition.
