Antequera

Antequera is a city located in the province of Málaga, Andalusia, southern Spain. It lies approximately 45 kilometers north of the city of Málaga and serves as a significant agricultural and commercial center for the surrounding region.

History:

Antequera boasts a rich and complex history, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Bronze Age. The Dolmens of Antequera, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are a testament to this ancient past, consisting of the megalithic tombs of Menga, Viera, and El Romeral.

The city was later inhabited by the Romans, who called it Anticaria. During the Moorish period, it was an important strategic location and was known as Antaqira. It was reconquered by Christian forces in 1410.
