Henry Morgan (of Llandaff)
Henry Morgan (c. 1645 – 1701) was a Welsh Anglican priest and academic. He served as Master of University College, Oxford, from 1672 to 1675, and later as Bishop of Llandaff from 1697 until his death.
Born in Wales, details of his early life are somewhat scarce. He matriculated at Jesus College, Oxford, in 1663, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1666, and a Master of Arts degree in 1669. His academic career progressed rapidly.
His tenure as Master of University College was relatively brief, but significant. During this period, he contributed to the academic life of the college and the university.
In 1697, Morgan was appointed Bishop of Llandaff, a position he held until his death in 1701. As Bishop, he was responsible for the spiritual oversight and administration of the Diocese of Llandaff, which encompassed a substantial portion of South Wales. His episcopate coincided with a period of relative stability within the Church of England, and he worked to maintain the established order. He is remembered primarily for his academic and ecclesiastical roles within the late 17th century.
