Alright Already (TV series)
Alright Already was an American sitcom television series that aired on The WB from September 15, 1997, to May 18, 1998. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Bill Prady, the show centered on the lives of Carol Lerner, a single Jewish woman in her 20s living in New York City, and her best friend, Vaughn Cunningham, a Black man who works as a record producer.
The series explored themes of friendship, dating, career aspirations, and cultural differences, often through comedic scenarios and witty dialogue. Carol worked as a publicist and Vaughn navigated the music industry, providing contrasting perspectives on life in the city.
The cast included Lauren Graham as Carol Lerner, Amy Halloran as Mia, Maz Jobrani as Jonathan, and Kulai Moon as Vaughn Cunningham. Despite a relatively short run of 22 episodes over one season, Alright Already is remembered for its sharp writing and its attempt to portray a realistic, multi-faceted friendship between a Jewish woman and a Black man in a pre-gentrified New York City. While not a major ratings success, the show has developed a cult following due to its smart humor and relatable characters.
