Alicante (Congress of Deputies constituency)

Alicante is a Spanish Congress of Deputies constituency representing the province of Alicante. It is one of the 52 constituencies used to elect members to the lower house of the Spanish Parliament, the Congress of Deputies.

The constituency elects a variable number of deputies based on its population. As of the 2023 general election, Alicante elected 12 deputies. The allocation of seats is recalculated before each election based on census data.

The electoral system used is proportional representation with closed lists. Voters cast their ballot for a party list, and seats are allocated using the D'Hondt method. A minimum threshold of 3% of the vote is required for a party to be considered in the seat allocation.

Historically, Alicante has been a competitive constituency, with both the People's Party (PP) and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) achieving significant levels of support. Other parties, such as Vox, Compromís, and Podemos, have also secured representation in the Congress of Deputies through this constituency. The political landscape can shift significantly between elections, reflecting regional and national trends.

The constituency encompasses the entire province of Alicante, including major cities such as Alicante, Elche, and Torrevieja.
