Aladdin (Atterberg opera)

Aladdin is an opera in three acts by Kurt Atterberg, with a libretto by Bruno Hardt-Warden and August Staudte based on Adam Oehlenschläger's play Aladdin, or the Wonderful Lamp. The opera premiered on March 18, 1941, at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. It is one of Atterberg's most ambitious works and is notable for its exotic and colourful orchestration, drawing inspiration from orientalist themes. The story follows the familiar tale of Aladdin and his magical lamp, set against a backdrop of palace intrigue and romantic pursuits. While not as widely performed as some other operas, Aladdin represents a significant contribution to Swedish operatic literature of the mid-20th century.
