Akhsikath

Akhsikath is a historical site located in the Osh Region of Kyrgyzstan, in the Fergana Valley. It was a major city and trading center along the Silk Road, flourishing from the 9th to the 12th centuries. Akhsikath served as the capital of the Karakhanids for a time, contributing to its political and economic significance.

The city's ruins, now an archaeological site, reveal evidence of a sophisticated urban center with fortifications, residential areas, craft workshops, and possibly religious structures. The site offers insight into the material culture and social organization of the Karakhanid period and its place within the broader Silk Road network. The name Akhsikath, sometimes spelled Aksykent, is believed to be derived from a Sogdian word meaning "white city" or "shining city."
