Abdul Wadud (general)

Abdul Wadud (born c. 1921, died 2000) was a Pakistani general who served in the Pakistan Army. He is notable for his role in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, particularly in the Eastern theatre (present-day Bangladesh).

Wadud held the rank of Major General during the 1971 war. He was in command of the 9th Infantry Division, which was deployed in the Jessore sector. His division was tasked with defending against the advancing Indian forces and the Mukti Bahini.

During the war, Wadud's division faced significant pressure and ultimately suffered defeat. Jessore fell to the allied forces in early December 1971. Following the surrender of Pakistani forces in East Pakistan on December 16, 1971, Wadud was taken prisoner of war by the Indian Army.

After the war, he was repatriated to Pakistan. Details regarding his life and career following his return are limited. However, his command during the 1971 war and the fall of Jessore remain significant aspects of his military history.
