78th Division (2nd Formation) (People's Republic of China)
The 78th Division (2nd Formation) was a military formation of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of the People's Republic of China. It was created in February 1951, during the Korean War, from the 26th Independent Brigade of the Xinjiang Military Region, the 28th Independent Regiment of the Xinjiang Military Region, and recruits from Shandong.
Upon its formation, the division was immediately assigned to the 26th Army. It was composed of the 232nd, 233rd, and 234th Regiments, and the 382nd Artillery Regiment.
The 78th Division participated in the Fifth Phase Offensive in the Korean War. After the armistice agreement was signed, the division remained in Korea until October 1958 when it returned to China with the 26th Army.
In September 1985, the 78th Division was disbanded.
