Zire 31
The Zire 31 was a personal digital assistant (PDA) manufactured by Palm, Inc. It was a low-end device in Palm's Zire line, aimed at budget-conscious consumers. Released in 2004, it was notable for being one of the first entry-level Palm PDAs to feature a color screen and the ability to play MP3 music.
The Zire 31 ran Palm OS 5.2.8 and included standard Palm PDA features such as a calendar, address book, memo pad, and to-do list. It utilized a Motorola DragonBall processor and included 16MB of RAM. The device connected to computers via a USB port, allowing for data synchronization and software installation.
The Zire 31's key differentiators were its affordability and multimedia capabilities. Its color screen, while small and of relatively low resolution, was a significant upgrade over the monochrome displays found on earlier entry-level Palm devices. The inclusion of an MP3 player, coupled with a headphone jack, allowed users to listen to music directly from the device. It used Secure Digital (SD) cards for storage expansion.
The Zire 31 was discontinued in 2005 as Palm streamlined its product line. It was succeeded by other low-cost Palm devices with improved features.
