Zettle
Zettle was a financial technology company founded in Sweden in 2010. It provided a point-of-sale (POS) system primarily aimed at small businesses. The core offering was a mobile card reader that connected to smartphones and tablets, allowing merchants to accept card payments easily and affordably.
Beyond card payments, Zettle's platform also included features such as sales tracking, inventory management, reporting, and integrations with other business software. It offered tools to manage products, pricing, and customer relationships.
In May 2018, PayPal acquired Zettle for $2.2 billion. Following the acquisition, Zettle was gradually integrated into PayPal's broader ecosystem of payment solutions. While the Zettle brand was initially retained in certain markets, PayPal eventually rebranded the Zettle platform to "PayPal Zettle," emphasizing its integration with the parent company. The transition aimed to provide a more unified suite of services for businesses.
The acquisition and subsequent integration of Zettle provided PayPal with an enhanced presence in the in-person payment space and broadened its reach to smaller businesses that may not have previously used PayPal's services.
