Sandesh (magazine)

Sandesh was a popular Bengali children's magazine founded by Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury in 1913. After his death in 1915, his son Sukumar Ray took over as editor. The magazine was known for its high-quality writing, illustrations, and printing. Notable contributors included Satyajit Ray (Sukumar Ray's son) who revived the magazine in 1961 and continued to edit it until his death. Sandesh published stories, poems, plays, puzzles, and articles aimed at children, and played a significant role in shaping children's literature in Bengal. Its focus was both entertaining and educational, fostering creativity and critical thinking among young readers. The magazine has had periods of discontinuity but remains an important part of Bengali cultural history.
